Panasonic projectors create the world's largest permanent video installation

Panasonic Business has worked alongside MEJV (Man Empty Joint Venture), RES (Realtime Environment Systems Ltd) and the DFI (Doha Film Institute) to integrate the world’s biggest permanent video projection installation at the National Museum of Qatar.

MEJV were contracted by QMA to install, configure and deliver the site-wide AV design, exhibits and visitor experiences.

Opened officially on the Wednesday 27 March, the National Museum of Qatar is designed by architect Ateliers Jean Novel to represent the local Desert Rose, and is composed of 130 juxtaposed disks. A statement building within the Doha landscape, the museum has been awarded the ‘Best Façade Design and Engineering of the Year 2017’ by LEAF (Leading European Architects Forum).

Alongside its showcase exterior, the interior of the museum creates a blueprint for immersive and experimental museums worldwide. AV technology provides a backbone for the production of local content which is designed to educate visitors across highly individual galleries and three chapters, ‘Beginnings, Life in Qatar, and Building the Nation’.

Collaborative work between with MEJV, RES and DFI collectively ensured all film content would be delivered using 172 media server platforms each running Avolites Ai Software, allowing them to re-produce nuanced high resolution video content.

DFI, MEJV & RES were then responsible for the choice of AV technology, which resulted in 112 Panasonic 4K projectors being installed across eight galleries, with the focus being the projection mapping of nine different local film director’s content. The PT-RQ13K was chosen for the project due, in the main, to its 3 Chip DLP™ laser diodes that ensured the highest quality 4K content.

In addition, the project required projectors which fitted within the smallest housing possible, in order to give them flexibility to install large numbers of projectors across multiple museum rooms, exhibits and within the fabric of the building.

Across the museum, a wide range of content is displayed to unite both the past and present of Qatar’s history and culture. Seven of the galleries feature floor to ceiling art films, designed to tell a detailed story about exhibitions, collections, and time in the region.
