About the technology of the new light source

1. How does the SOLID SHINE Series projector create images? 

The SOLID SHINE Series projectors employ the DLP™ projection system used as the imaging device. A light source (lamp) and a colour wheel have been replaced by LED/Laser diodes. Red LED, blue LED, and laser diodes are lit/pulsed to create the images. Separate colours are combined in the viewer's mind to create a full image, very much like how images are produced in 1-Chip DLP™ projectors.

2. Does the SOLID SHINE Series projector use a colour wheel?

No, the colour wheel is replaced by the LED/Laser light source. Red LED, blue LED, and laser diodes are lit/pulsed to create the images. Separate colours are combined in the viewer's mind to create a full image, very much like how images are produced in 1-Chip DLP™ projectors.

3. Is there any rainbow effect or colour breaking on the SOLID SHINE Series projectors?

The SOLID SHINE Series projectors drive the light source at a speed that is 10 times faster than conventional 1-Chip DLP™ projectors (in dynamic mode, 3.3 times faster in other modes). Consequently, rainbow/colour breaking is virtually non-existent on the PT-RZ470/RW430 and PT-RZ370/RW330. This is made possible by the durability of Panasonic's light source control unit.

4. Is the laser light safe?

Yes, it is safe.
No direct light from the laser is projected to insure the safety of the projector. Laser light is reflected off of the phosphor wheel.

5. Why does the SOLID SHINE Series projector show no usual laser speckles?

The laser wavelength is changed at the phosphor wheel. Laser speckles are dissipated at the phosphor wheel.

6. Does the colour shift after long hours of use?

Built-in sensor constantly detects the light intensity of the light source and corrects corresponding changes in white balance.
This all helps to maintain excellent picture quality for a long period of time.

7. Does the brightness of the light source have a steep downward curve after long hours of use?

Compared to a conventional lamp, brightness deterioration is very linear throughout its life.

8. What happens to the SOLID SHINE Series projectors after the expected maintenance-free time of 20,000 hours*?

The projector will not be shut down after 20,000 hours* for further usage.
However, if there is much dust accumulation in the projector, the inside cleaning and maintenance of the light source or other consumable parts are possible at the service center.

9. How long is the life-span of the parts other than the light source?

All components within the SOLID SHINE Series projector are rated for 20,000 hours and/or above usage.*

10. If the projector is used in ECO mode, does the life-span lengthen to more than 20,000 hours?

No, using the projector in ECO mode does not lengthen the life of the product. However, it will help to lower the power consumption and the noise level.

11. Is the LED/Laser light source unit field replaceable?

No. The LED/Laser unit cannot be handled by the end-users and the unit is not field replaceable. It can be replaced in the service center facility.

12. Doesn't dust enter the projector?

All optical components, including LED/Laser diodes, phosphor wheel, and DLP™ chip are enclosed in a sealed cabinet. Even if dust enters the projector, it will not affect the image.

About installation

1. Why does it not get hot around the SOLID SHINE Series projector?

The heat pipe cooling system within the projector suppresses temperature rises inside the projector and realizes the 20,000 hour longevity.* Additionally, the lower temperature of the light source and the efficient cooling system designed by Panasonic help to keep the overall temperature very low.

2. Do the SOLID SHINE Series projectors have a High Altitude mode?

There is no high altitude mode selection in the menu. A built-in pressure sensor automatically switches to high altitude mode if necessary.

3. Can the projectors be stacked?

As long as the projectors are stacked in a frame that follows the instructions in the manual, they can be stacked.
Do not stack projector units directly on top of one another for the purpose of multiple (stacked) projection.

4. Will the unit fit a 2' x 2'?

The dimensions are W455 x H137 x D415 mm (17-29/32 x 5-13/32 x 16-11/32 inches), so it will fit a 2' x 2'.

5. Is there any limitation for Portrait orientation?

Portrait mode is only available in the PT-RZ470/RW430. Portrait orientation with the terminal side surface facing downward is supported.
For portrait installation in the other direction, please consult your dealer.

6. Is there an optional accessory for portrait orientation?

Yes, the PT-RZ470/RW430 can be installed in portrait orientation and we have a mount bracket ET-PKR100P for portrait mode.

7. Which is the larger range in horizontal lens shift?

The projected image can be shifted more to the terminal side. When mounted in portrait mode, it shifts more downwards.*

1. What's special about the SOLID SHINE Series projectors?

The PT-RZ470/RW430 and PT-RZ370/RW330 are Panasonic's first lamp free projectors. The conventional mercury based lamp is replaced by LED/Laser diodes. Benefits are 20,000 hours of virtually maintenance-free operation*, no filter cleaning, long lasting high brightness, installation flexibility and much more.
Also, they are equipped with a DIGITAL LINK terminal based on the transmission standards used in Crestron’s DigitalMedia 8G+, Extron’s XTP Systems, etc. You can transmit multiple signals, such as HDMI, uncompressed HD digital video, audio, and control signals all through a single CAT5e (STP) cable or higher.

2. What is the difference between the PT-RZ470/RW430 and PT-RZ370/RW330?

The PT-RZ470/RW430 is geared towards the professional market, such as digital signage, museums, etc. So they have features such as Edge Blending, Multi Brightness Control, Portrait Mode capability and more.
The PT-RZ370/RW330 is geared towards the classroom/meeting room market, so it does not have all the professional features but offers all the benefits of Panasonic's LED/Laser technology.

5. What's the power consumption of the SOLID SHINE Series?

The average power consumption in the default setting is 250 W.*
The absolute maximum power consumption the projector can draw is around 460 W (only in dynamic mode with full white).
If power consumption is a priority, we offer the EcoSave mode, where we reduce the power consumption while maintaining the same brightness feel to the image. Using the EcoSave mode you can reduce power consumption as much as 178 W in the same default setting.

6. Does the SOLID SHINE Series projector have the Side-by-Side feature?

No, they don't have the Side-by-Side feature.

While maintaining a design that harmonizes (blends in) with the environment--concept followed by the rest of the Panasonic projectors
–the projector explores a new rounded shape to express the game changing new light source projector.
The form factor is referred to as "Sphere Cut Form" by the design team.

12. Do the SOLID SHINE Series projectors have colour variations?

The PT-RZ470/RW430 is available in both black and white cabinet colours, while the PT-RZ370/RW330 is only offered in white.
